Clean Water & Solar Borehole Initiative

Clean Water & Solar Borehole Initiative
Launched: July 27, 2026 Active for: 50 days Donors: 42

About This Initiative

Access to safe, clean drinking water remains one of the most pressing humanitarian challenges across rural sub-Saharan Africa. The Clean Water & Solar Borehole Initiative deploys durable, deep-aquifer solar pumping systems to arid and underserved farming settlements in Northern and Western Nigeria.

Each solar-powered borehole is engineered to operate autonomously for over 15 years, eliminating reliance on diesel generators and delivering up to 35,000 liters of potable water daily to more than 2,500 residents. Beyond eradicating waterborne illnesses such as cholera and typhoid, this initiative liberates young girls and mothers from walking up to six kilometers each morning, directly boosting school attendance and enabling women to engage in local commerce.
